Statement from John Horgan on World Water Day

On World Water day, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on the bounty of fresh water that British Columbian’s enjoy. We are one of the rare jurisdictions where one can turn on their tap and have access to drinking water that in most places outshines even the most expensive bottled alternative.

But it’s more than that. Our rivers and streams support salmon, trout and sturgeon, produce 85 percent of our electricity, irrigate some of the most fertile agricultural land in the world and support countless species of wildlife. Read more

NDP leadership candidate calls for timber reform

NDP leadership candidate John Horgan called for timber rights reform and rolling back some of the sweeping forest policy changes the Liberals introduced in the middle of the last decade.

During a campaign stopover in Prince George Thursday, Horgan said it is time to restore the connection between communities and timber.

Horgan said he would establish a group of industry, First Nation, union and academic leaders to come up with tenure reform ideas. Read more

Horgan Outlines Agricultural Plan

NELSON—NDP leadership candidate and Juan de Fuca MLA John Horgan has announced his plans for supporting agriculture in B.C.

“British Columbians are increasingly concerned about food security and local food sources,” said Horgan. “Unfortunately, the BC Liberals have neglected the agricultural sector, slashed funding for the Ministry of Agriculture and allowed farm production to decline at a time when it should be increasing and expanding its reach at home and beyond.” Read more
